Mission
Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
What is Habitat for Humanity?
Habitat for Humanity is a faith-based organization that builds simple,
affordable homes in partnership with people in need. Because of Habitats
no-profit, no-interest loans, and because homes are built primarily by
volunteers, mortgage payments can be kept reasonable to those unable to
obtain conventional financing for a home. Habitat homeowners are required
to invest 300-400 hours of sweat equity, depending on family size, time
spent building their own home and homes for other people. Call (251)
476-7171 for more information.
History of Habitat for Humanity
Millard and Linda Fuller founded Habitat for Humanity International in 1976, in Americus, Georgia, with the goal of eliminating poverty housing throughout the world. In 30 years, Habitat for Humanity has built over 400,000 houses in partnership with over 2 million people in more than 3,000 communities.
Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County was founded in 1988 and has built
over 200 homes. The name was changed to Habitat for Humanity of
Southwest Alabama in May 2011 with the expansion into Washington County. Come join us!
