Habitat Facts
Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County (HFHMC) was incorporated in 1988. The first family moved into a Habitat home in August 1990. Habitat families are selected on the basis of need, willingness to partner and the ability to repay a non-interest-bearing mortgage. Habitat for Humanity has approximately 1,700 affiliates in the United States (including the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.) There are 590 campus chapters around the world, including 55 high school campus chapters and 22 international campus chapters.

HFHMC has completed more than 90 homes, and are planning another 80!  A home currently costs $50,000 to sponsor and 175 volunteers typically spend 2,500 hours working on a Habitat home.

There are now more than 250 individuals living in Habitat homes in Mobile County. Worldwide, more than 1,000,000 people are living in over 200,000 Habitat homes.

Habitat for Humanity in Mobile County builds new homes. We do not repair existing homes. Area businesses, civic and educational organizations and congregations of various denominations have sponsored our houses.

We use 80% of our income for construction in Mobile County; pledge 10% to Habitat International in Americus, Georgia to be used in construction of homes in developing nations; and use I0% for administrative costs. We are members in good standing with the Alabama Association of Habitat Affiliates.
